About

History

At Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church, we believe a church is not a building; it is people gathering for worship, study, fellowship, and service. The people who make up our church gathered for worship and study for a couple of years before they officially became Faith Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1977. The first building this church met in was close to where Raleigh and Bartlett meet. In 2001, the congregation moved a few miles west to our present location on Appling Road, completely becoming a Bartlett church. In this location, we were able to build a sanctuary, classrooms, a gym, and a huge field to be used in all sorts of ministries and activities.

The “Cumberland Presbyterian” part of our name means that this congregation is one congregation within the international denomination called The Cumberland Presbyterian Church (often abbreviated as CPC). The CPC was born in 1810, reluctantly breaking away from the Presbyterian Church over a theological matter and a practical matter. The Presbyterian Church taught that God controls everything, including who is saved and who is not, so we humans have no choice in our salvation. The Presbyterian Church also said that to be a minister, you had to spend years in seminary on the U.S. East Coast or in Europe. A group of Presbyterians wanted the right to question that theological teaching because it didn’t seem to match some Bible passages, such as John 3:16. They also wanted to maintain high educational standards for ministers but speed up the process for ordination because the American frontier was moving west so quickly there were not enough ministers to start new congregations or even hold enough worship services. After years of fighting, and failing, to have their concerns heard by the Presbyterian Church, they finally gave up and started their own denomination, calling it The Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Leadership

Session

The session plays a vital role in guiding and strengthening our congregation and community. As elected representatives, elders work alongside pastors to provide leadership, care, and encouragement. They guide our church to support meaningful ministries that help and serve our community, encourage personal growth and collective connection, and lead with integrity. With a commitment to continuous learning and service, elders help shape the future of our community, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for all. This position is open to members who demonstrate strong character and dedication to the well-being of others.

Pastor Andy McClung

Our Senior Pastor is Rev. Dr. Andy McClung. Andy was born, baptized, and raised in Alabama as a lifelong Cumberland Presbyterian. His ministry journey began with a B.A. from Samford University (1990), followed by an M.Div. (1994) and D.Min. (2002) from Memphis Theological Seminary. Since his ordination in 1995, he has faithfully served churches across Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

Beyond the pulpit, Andy has made a lasting impact on the CP denomination—writing curriculum for youth and adults, serving as a clerk for both presbytery and synod, leading retreats and training events, and teaching in the seminary and the Program of Alternate Studies. If there’s a way to serve, Andy has probably done it!

Andy and his wife, also a minister, are empty-nesters with two young adult children. What Andy loves most about Faith CP Church is how we are a group of people who don’t think alike, look alike, or vote alike. Yet, we get along because we focus on what really matters — serving God and serving others in Christ’s name.

Associate Pastor Juan M. Cabezas

Originally from Cali, Colombia, Juan is a husband and father who loves God and believes that everyone can contribute to God’s kingdom uniquely. He graduated from Colegio Americano, a school founded by the Cumberland Presbyterian Mission in Colombia. Juan and his wife later made Memphis their home.

Juan has been an active member of our Faith Church community for years, sharing his musical talents as a drummer in the worship praise band. His journey of faith led him to pursue ministry, earning his Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary in 2024. In early 2025, he officially joined our team as Associate Pastor, working in a supportive role alongside Pastor Andy. With a heart for service, connection, and spiritual growth, Juan is committed to boosting our congregation and supporting our community meaningfully.

Communications Director Danielle Robbins

Danielle has been our Communications Director since 2017. She resides in Munford, TN with her husband Connor and their 3 dogs and cat. They will be expecting their first daughter this summer.

She works full time as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant and strives to best rehabilitate each of her patients in their homes. In her free time, Danielle loves being on any body of water, cheering on UT sports, and creating balloon arches for small events.

Room In The Inn

Don Hopkins
RITI Coordinator

Room in the Inn is a ministry of hospitality and compassion dedicated to providing temporary shelter and meals for those experiencing homelessness. Through a network of rotating host congregations, this ministry offers a warm, safe environment where guests can find rest and nourishment and experience the love and care of Christ through our church.

Our congregation partners with the local Room in the Inn organization to provide overnight shelter in our building during the most challenging seasons, from November through March. This ministry is a shared effort, inviting everyone in our church family to participate—whether by preparing meals, offering hospitality, or providing support—to create a community that upholds the dignity and worth of every individual and cares, respects, and supports those in need.

How We Worship

At our church, worship is at the core of who we are as God’s creation. People of all ages come together, worshiping side by side—united in heart and purpose, drawing closer to God as we learn to honor Him. Our worship blends timeless hymns with contemporary songs, creating a meaningful space for everyone to connect with God.

Here, what matters most isn’t how we dress but the openness of our hearts. We also strive to make everyone feel welcome, including providing a unique space for kids to experience God in a way that helps them learn and grow in faith as an active part of the church family.

Pastor Andy’s preaching challenges Christians to actively seek God’s guidance and live out their faith in every aspect of life—not just rest in the comfort of salvation. He approaches Scripture, faith, and theology with curiosity and honesty, unafraid to acknowledge the Church’s past mistakes while inspiring growth and deeper understanding.
